My Experience

I started writing this blog as a class assignment, now the class is coming to an end. Even though the class is ending I will still be updating my blog. I have found that writing this blog is a great way for me to summarize my research so I can look back at it later if I need to. I have also found that it is a good way to get the word out about my film. I would like to continue to connect with people who are planning a wedding or just interested in weddings in general. One thing I would really like is to connect with theknot.com because I think theknot.com is a great site for wedding planning for people all over. Another wedding site I hope to connect with is mywedding.com because I have found that site helpful in my research as well.

I have also found that Twitter, Pinterest, and Facebook have worked the best in promoting my blog and my film. I received the most clicks to my blog from Twitter followed by Facebook. I did not receive any views on my blog from Pinterest, but I have gotten a lot of my pins repined including the pins from my blog. I have also found Pinterest to be very helpful in getting inspiration for production design.

Picking a Song

Here is a great article on How to Choose a Wedding Song. It goes covers three steps to choosing your song. The first step is figuring out your style, then consider song criteria and finally looking at wedding song lists. The article explains each step and guides you to figure out how to pick a song. It also provides links to wedding song lists. Besides the three steps the article gives other helpful tips such as choosing two songs or doing audio clips of different songs to tell the story of your relationship. I definitely recommend checking the article out.

Theknot.com also has a bunch of different articles about wedding songs. Such as songs you should not use, romantic first dance songs, first dance cover songs, music tips, music myths, music mistakes, and much more so I recommend looking through there as well.

For my film I do not need a specific first dance song, however I do need a score for the movie. I will have someone compositing the music for me, but I have also been looking around on soundcloud.com to get ideas of how I want the music to be. Here is one of the songs that I found:

Wedding Checklist

I have used theknot.com for a lot of my research. It has everything that you could possibly think of for planning a wedding. One of the many features that I have explored on the knot is their wedding checklist. This list goes over what to do four to 5 months before the wedding, two to three months before the wedding, six weeks before the wedding, three to four weeks before the wedding, one to to two weeks before the wedding, the day before the wedding, the day of the wedding, and after the wedding.

Planning a wedding for film is a little bit different than planning an actual wedding, but I found a lot of the items in the four to five months before the wedding checklist helpful such as creating a budget, looking at color palettes , flowers, wedding dresses, making a folder on the computer and a binder dedicated to the wedding (or in my case film), figuring out who is going to contribute what to the wedding and so on. If you have no clue where to start planning I definitely advise going over the checklist. I suggest going over it no matter what. Even if you have already started planning there could be some items you missed or hadn’t thought about. So check it out and have fun planning your wedding. I sure am… even if my wedding is pretend.

Picking the Perfect Wedding Dress

Here is a great article on how to choose your wedding dress. It gives tips for choosing the right dress. The first step is to pick your wedding date or at least what time of the year you will be getting married so your dress is season appropriate. Next you should set a budget before even entering the store that way you won’t fall in love with a dress you can not afford. Next the article discusses what to expect at the bridal shop and what you should bring… bring pictures of dresses you admire, do not bring too many people. Too many opinions distract from your own. The next section of the article goes into detail about how to pick the right dress for your body type.  The article also goes over final touches, accessories and so on. I recommend checking it out before looking at dresses.

To get inspiration for pictures to bring to the bridal shop with you I recommend going to theknot.com Here you can narrow down your choices and get a bunch of great pictures for when you go to try on dresses. I am using theknot.com to gather ideas for how I want the dress in my film to look.

Create Your Own Centerpiece

Here is a great video explaining how to create center pieces for a wedding from onlineweddingflorist.

This video is really helpful to me because I will not have a florist to put my centerpieces together for me. Myself and my crew will be creating all the props for my film ourselves. The video will help me to save money with creating my own centerpieces in a way that will actually look good. Even if you have a florist doing the centerpieces for your wedding it is still helpful to know how exactly they do it.

I recommend checking out the rest of onlineweddingflorist’s videos because there are great tips for all different kinds of flower arrangement ideas including flower arrangements from celebrity weddings.

What’s a wedding without flowers?

When it comes to flowers a great place to start getting ides is theknot.com. If you know your color palette I would suggest searching by color to get ideas, however you can also search by arrangement or by bloom.

After looking around on theknot.com  I suggest going to fiftyflowers.com  and searching your choice even more. Here you can select the color you want and look at all the different types of flowers in that color. I followed these steps and ended up with a few ideas for flower arrangements for the wedding in my film. Here are some of the arrangements I like, hopefully you will be able to get ideas for your color palette as well.

Unique Wedding Locations

If you are not looking for a traditional location and want something a little but more unique I would start with watching this video from Get Married TV.

After watching this video I was inspired to research more unique locations and found an article called 10 Completely Unique (And Totally You) Wedding Venues.  The article goes through 10 different locations such as a chapel, a butterfly habitat, a winery, near the water, a country club, city hall, a museum, a park, a garden and scuba diving. You can read the article and get more information about each location. I found the butterfly habitat the most interesting because I have been pretty much obsessed with butterflies since the age of eight or nine. Although I will not be using a butterfly habitat for my film it did inspire me to think outside the box.
